What toys are and are not developmentally friendly for babies?

I have been asked this question many times in the past several months. The BUMBO is a common toy used to help babies sit up but I will explain why this seat is biomechanically unsound for babies. Sitting your little one in a BUMBO puts the low back into a compromised position, adds improper pressure to the spine, tilts the pelvis backwards, and develops a dysfunctional sitting pattern into the baby.

We want our babies to find these motor programs on their own. Allowing babies to functionally find these movements allows them to stabilize their spine correctly which minimizes the risk of poor movement patters and injuries later in life. Golden rule of thumb is, do not sit your child in an upright position before they learn to sit on their own.

One toy that perfect for entertaining babies and encouraging them to position themselves for crawling, kicking, or wiggling is the Fun Mat! This type of toy will make music and light up with pressure on the mat while avoiding unsafe positions for baby.

Toys that are good for development never place baby in a fixed position like sitting in an exersaucer or a bumbo . Toys like these encourage movement which is exactly what our babies need to develop proprely and meet each milestone on time. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MBFC4W1/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_jk3SEbY8SHTJQ?fbclid=IwAR3gGs3xdmh3j-GjNwma3zLZUBCGtLh-g2JenQbo4D-ZAs1KitsKlwzVOAw

When picking out toys for your little ones, remember the golden rule of development: Don’t put your kiddos into ANY position that they haven’t put themselves in first.
