Chiropractic for Pregnancy
Chiropractic care before, during and after pregnancy can help mom and baby in so many ways. We'll take the time to prepare mom and baby for the journey ahead.
We treat pregnant women with gentle chiropractic adjustments to help with things like back pain often experienced with pregnancy. We are certified in Webster Technique which balances the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and delivery, as well as give the growing baby room in the womb.
Chiropractic is a very safe and effective treatment to restore motion to the spine and joints during pregnancy. During pregnancy, there are several physiologic and endocrine changes that occur in preparation for creating the environment for the developing baby. We recommend chiropractic care to all pregnant women due to following changes that occur during pregnancy:
Growing and protruding abdomen and increased lower back curvature
Pelvic joint changes
Natural increase in hormones that cause joint laxity in the mother
Postural adaptations throughout the spine that occur due to growing abdomen and breasts
Another reason to have regular prenatal chiropractic care is to establish good pelvic balance and alignment which may increase the amount of room available for the developing baby to grow and position themselves in the best possible way for birth. When poor alignment exists in the mother’s pelvis it causes intrauterine constraint which makes it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery. This can affect the mother’s ability to have a natural, non-invasive birth. Breech, transvers and posterior positions can interfere with the natural ease of labor and lead to interventions such as C-sections.
It is also important to seek chiropractic care after the delivery of your baby to ensure alignment after birth is achieved to decrease pain in the mother and help her to heal in the best possible alignment.
More women are realizing the benefits of prenatal chiropractic care, and are being adjusted prior to conception, and then throughout their entire pregnancy. This can prevent stress on the growing baby by getting the pelvis in the right position to give the baby ideal space in the womb. It also allows the baby to be in the ideal position throughout the entire pregnancy. The baby's position in utero is directly related to the mother's pelvic position prior to, and during her pregnancy. When under specific prenatal chiropractic care, it will greatly reduce the rate of intervention at birth (breech, posterior, transverse positions).
Chiropractic for Pediatrics
Pediatric chiropractic is important to a child’s overall well-being. It also helps address acute conditions that develop in young children. Many families bring their infants to be adjusted shortly after birth. The reason for this is to remove the stress (physical stress) that the infant has already been under during pregnancy and birth. The gentle adjusting techniques used help the infant and child's nervous system function optimally at a crucial time for growth, learning, and development.
