“I began chiropractic with Dr. Keough 1 year ago. My husband literally had to drive me to the office because I was in so much pain. I couldn’t do ANYTHING! I had zero mobility in my neck and back and couldn’t even back up out of my driveway. Dr. Keough recommended chiropractic adjustments and lab work to see what was going on at a deeper level. Dr. Keough found spinal subluxations and nutritional deficiencies that were affecting my body in a negative way. Dr. Keough was very persistent in helping me achieve my health goals with chiropractic and nutritional supplements.

I continued to progress and today (6 months later) I have regained almost all my mobility, can look over my shoulder when backing up the car. I am able to do what I love again; feed my dogs, garden, play with my grandkids, cook and do household chores easily and with no pain!

Chiropractic was very successful and I look forward to continuing my care to remain pain free and healthy!”

Carrie came to see me at her wit’s end. She was suffering from daily headaches and frequent migraines. This pattern had lasted for almost 10 years. She had adapted her life around her pain. After trying everything she decided to seek out chiropractic care. After her first few weeks Carrie noticed significant relief and after a few months her headaches are almost non-existent! Carrie suffered from subluxated (misaligned vertebrae) in her neck. Simple chiropractic adjustments to correct the imbalance in her spine and simple home exercises that gave Carrie her life back. Carrie has now moved on to maintenance care and continues to live a pain-free, wellness lifestyle!

“I came in specifically to get relief from my constant headaches. Over the last several weeks, my headaches have decreased in frequency and intensity. I can tell a great difference in the way my body responds to headache pain. I really appreciate the ability to live my life without constant pain!” ~Carrie Schafer

Being told you may have to consider a c-section due to the fact your baby is not in the correct position can cause an up-rise of emotion in a pregnant mother. She suddenly feels worry and fear come over her in the desperate attempt to find a solution to this problem. Below is an other testimonial from a happy mama that presented in my office with her baby in the breech position and after being told by her doctor to start considering a C-section for her birth.

“When my doctor told me a natural birth may not be possible due to the fact our baby was breech, I immediately searched for help but wasn’t exactly sure where to turn. I was lucky enough to be referred to Keough Chiropractic! At 33 weeks I began seeing Felicity and by 35 weeks our baby had flipped to the head down position! I am so thankful for finding and using Felicity, she has given me an opportunity that I may not have had otherwise!”

The c-section rate is on the rise! If you know anyone who is pregnant and looking for a solution to this very common problem let them know their is help by and their dreams of having a natural birth are achievable.

You may just have some occasional stiffness or discomfort, but arthritis can also make it difficult for you to exercise, work, socialize, and enjoy life.

Many of the medications available for arthritis can be hard on the stomach. And taking medicine may help your symptoms but not their cause. But blunting your arthritis pain with pain relievers so that you can continue with your normal daily activities can actually increase wear and tear on your arthritic knee joints(3).

It’s easy to understand how a heavy body can put extra stress on weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees, and ankles. A large belly can also affect posture, pulling the body out of alignment and stressing the back, shoulders, and neck.

What’s more, joint pain can make exercise difficult or even impossible. And since regular physical activity is a Habit of Health, you need to make sure you’re doing everything you can to make exercise safe and comfortable.

Many of us have experienced it, and science backs up the fact: Losing weight can ease the pain of arthritis. Researchers in Denmark showed that overweight patients with arthritis in their knees experienced a “highly significant increase in function” by losing weight—specifically, body fat. Just a 10% decrease in body weight helped to improve symptoms of knee osteoarthritis by 28%.4

With healthy weight loss, the Habits of Health, and your Health Coach’s guidance, you may find you can move more easily and comfortably along the path to Optimal Health.

Before Valerie chose chiropractic care her life was slowed down by the annoying aches and tired muscles and headaches that plagued her on a daily basis. The pain wasn’t debilitating and she could still perform her daily routine but she noticed that over time the problem began to hinder her lifestyle. Eventually, holding her grandson was very difficult because of the physical stress that comes with holding a baby. She needed frequent breaks and rest periods to regain her strength and energy and give the pain time to subside. Now her grandson is almost two and of course requires a TON of energy. Valerie has been under regular chiropractic care and is able to hold him and play with him without pain or the breaks she needed before. What a change of pace!

Its the small aches and pains that seem to be minor and harmless that will accumulate over time and cause the body harm in the future. Small aches in your spine and joints, and tight, sore muscles are the body’s way of telling us our spine and nervous system (think of this as the axis or the master control center of your body) is in need of alignment and adjusting. Valerie’s body had simply reached the pain threshold from the interference that was residing in her spine and any extra stress (physical, mental, emotional) caused her body to experience more pain. Chiropractic adjustments remove stress and interference from the spine and allows a pain free well functioning body. LISTEN to your body, its always talking to you.

Read what Valerie has to say:

“The care of Dr. Keough has been nothing but outstanding. She is very passionate about the well being of her patients. She has helped me tremendously. I am now able to do my normal activities with little or no discomfort, not to mention I take very little pain medication anymore. I believe the treatments have helped with headaches as well as my back issues and posture.” ~ Valerie A.

Thanks for sharing those heart felt words Valerie. Another reason I LOVE being a chiropractic physician.

Perhaps you know someone who is experiencing this. If so, read the testimonial below and find out a safe, all-natural solution to getting better sleep for you and your baby.

“Before making out first appointment with Dr. Keough, my son Ryan (4 months at the time) was NOT sleeping through the night. He was getting in 10-15 min intervals through the night if we were lucky. He was constantly crabby and fussy and spitting up which was starting to take a toll on my husband and I. After just a few adjustments we noticed longer sleep intervals through the night. To date, Ryan has been adjusted regularly for 6 months and he is a completely different child. He sleeps through the night most nights and has a happy, healthy demeanor. Dr. Keough explained that he had interference in his nervous system which was causing his body to react with sleepless nights and digestive upset. Our entire family now gets adjusted on a regular basis and slays healthy and well rested. THANKS YOU!!!” ~Donna R.

“Dr. Keough adjusted me throughout my pregnancy and I felt fantastic. I believe perfect alignment of me and my baby from chiro work along with Hypnobirthing made my birth VERY EASY. It was so easy that I had my baby at home not realizing how far into labor I was!” ~ Katie B.

Perhaps you are thinking about about having your baby all natural or even considering a home birth. Maybe, all you want is to go through your pregnancy with as little discomfort as possible. Whatever your goal is this post will answer any questions you have about pregnancy and how chiropractic can help. I see pregnant women every day in my practice and all have different goals and desires for their pregnancy, labor and delivery. I am hear to support you in the best possible way.

This idea of a home birth may sound strange, but is gaining popularity. If your doctor has classified your pregnancy as “complicated” this is not a good option for you and you are better off having your baby in the hospital. While a home birth or even going all- natural isn’t for everyone, if you are in the majority of women and in good health and having a normal and uncomplicated pregnancy then this is an option for you.

These are real questions I hear each week from pregnant women in my practice:

- I am planning an all- natural birth, and even I’m even discussing the option of a home birth, how can chiropractic help me?

- I just found out my baby is breech! I heard chiropractic may be able to help?

- I am having intense round ligament pain, can chiropractic help me with that?

- I am having lower back pain and I don’t want to take any medication, but can I have a chiropractic adjustment while I’m pregnant?

I will address each of these questions based of my experience and knowledge of how the human body works and responds to a chiropractic adjustment.

From the ICPA website:

“Chiropractic care benefits all aspects of your body’s ability to be healthy. This is accomplished by working with the nervous system–the communication system between your brain and body. Doctors of Chiropractic work to correct spinal, pelvic and cranial misalignments (subluxations). When misaligned, these structures create an imbalance in surrounding muscles and ligaments. Additionally, the resulting nerve system stress may affect the body’s ability to function optimally.”
The Webster protocol is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated.

I want an all- natural birth, maybe even a home birth, how can chiropractic help me?

When planning to have an all- natural birth be sure to be evaluate for proper spinal alignment. Having your spine and pelvis in the optimal position while you are pregnant ensures that you reduce the intra-uterine constraint that occurs with in un-balanced perlvis. This may contribute to increased likelihood of many structural defects including a breech baby or a more difficult labor and delivery which can make your all- natural labor and delivery more difficult.

I just found out my baby is breech! I heard chiropractic may be able to help?

It is normal for your baby to be in the breech position until about 31-32 weeks. However, by 33-35 weeks if your baby is not yet in the head down position your doctor will start discussing the possibility of a C-section. This can be a scary conversation for women. About one in three mothers now give birth by cesarean section, a record level for the United States. Chiropractic and the Webster protocol may assist pregnant mothers that are carrying their baby in the breech presentation by first correcting the pelvic misalignment and torsion of the sacrum and secondly releasing the increased tone in the round ligaments and relaxing the intra-uterine constraint with gentle tissue manipulation. By “normalizing” the mother’s structure the baby is given the opportunity to shift into the correct head down position for birth. This will eliminate the need for cesarean section in most cases.

I am having intense round ligament pain, can chiropractic help me with that?

Most women will experience the very common round ligament pain that is associated with the normal development and growth of her baby and the drastic changes that take place during pregnancy. However, this pain can be excruciating and debilitating for some women if they have increased torsion or misalignment in their pelvic region. The round ligaments (and other surrounding uterine ligaments) that hold the uterus in space branch off the pelvis and become tighter as the mother’s belly begins to grow, this is normal. However, if the mother’s pelvis is misaligned and unbalanced those round ligaments will become more tense on one side verses the other side. This may cause severe round ligament pain. Chiropractic and Webster protocol can align the mother’s pelvis and decrease the tension in her round ligaments leading to a more comfortable, high quality pregnancy.

I am having lower back pain and I don’t want to take any medication, but can I have a chiropractic adjustment while I’m pregnant?

Most women experience a number of neuromuscular and biomechanical problems during pregnancy which respond favorably to gentle, safe, noninvasive chiropractic care.

Here is what occurs biomechanically inside the mother’s body during pregnancy.

1. The release of the hormone Relaxin causes muscles and ligaments to relax and prepare for birth but allows joints to more easily misalign and become irritated.

2. The increase in weight gain and change in weight distribution will increase demand and fatigue on spinal and pelvic muscles which increase stress on spinal and pelvic ligaments.

3. The increase in lumbar and thoracic curves will further increase the above stress on joints and increase the occurrence of spinal and pelvic joint misalignment’s. These changes effect the pelvis and spinal muscles, ligaments and other soft tissue supportive tissue. These changes can also cause strain/sprain of the pelvic and spinal structures and alter the normal curvatures and biomenchanics of the spine. This results in an increase stress on the body which may lead to pain and discomfort.

Chiropractic addresses the above biomechanical issues decreasing the pain and the likelihood of needing pain medication.

Mother’s in my practice that receive Chiropractic and Webster protocol during pregnancy reported a comfortable, higher quality pregnancy and an easier labor and delivery. Just like the mother’s body changes to accommodate the new baby, treatment style will change to accommodate the mother’s body. Read about what other mom’s in my practice are saying below.

“I came to Dr. Felicity at 32 weeks pregnant with my baby in the breech presentation and severe low back pain. Within 3 treatments, coming twice a week my son had turned and was no longer breech. My back pain also became much better. She really saved me throughout my pregnancy.” ~Ashlee M.

“I came in to see Dr. Keough at 38 weeks with INTENSE pain in my lower left side. Dr. Keough informed me that my pelvis was out of alignment and that was causing the round ligament pain on one side. After one treatment my pain was gone and I went into labor that weekend!” ~ Melissa T.

“I was 35 weeks when my doctor started discussing the possibility of needing to do a c-section. This was not something I ever imagine I would have to do. All I wanted was to have a natural birth. I began researching my options and I found Dr. Keough on the icpa’s website (www.icpa4kids.org). I decided to to make an appointment and go forward with her recommendations. By my 37th week, I was headed to my 5th visit with Dr. Keough after seeing my OB. I had very good news for her. MY BABY IS HEAD DOWN! I shouted. I knew the possibility of the baby shifting back to the breech position so naturally I continued with our treatment plan. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 39 weeks and I did not need a C-Section!” ~ Amy V.

“Working with Dr. Keough has been easy, gratifying and fun. She takes the time to thoroughly explain everything she does while at the same time makes you feel very comfortable. She asked me what my goals were and worked with me in achieving those goals. Its very refreshing to have a health professional that shows so much care and concern. Thanks for being our family’s primary care physcian!” ~Debbie O.

“I think it is important to see a chiro who specializes in Webster technique because before I saw Dr Keough I went to a chiro who used only SOT method and I had issues not beeing addressed such as annoying and nagging round ligament pain. I really believe that many common ‘discomforts’ of pregnancy can be eliminated through regular chiropractic adjustments. Keep up the great work Dr Keough!!” Katie B.

Since my spine and posture have been corrected I am now able to work out and regain my core strength which is very necessary, since I spend the weekend’s doing wrestling shows. My adjustments have aided in my body’s sleep cycle. I feel energized during the day, rather than sluggish. I’m having restful night sleeps, which were uncommon before I started chiropractic. When ever feel under the weather or like an illness may be coming on, I come in to be adjusted and the following day I feel 100% better and wake up with more energy.” ~Joe P. IL
